This gorgeous late summer Chicago engagement session felt almost cinematic. The way the light reflected off the lake, the skyline slowly softening as the sun went down, the breeze coming in off the water. It all felt a little nostalgic as we were standing in it, like we already knew it’s a moment to remember.
We found the most beautiful spot tucked near the edge of the lake where the city somehow blended perfectly with nature. Wildflowers surrounded Andrea and Ben, the water stretching endlessly, and the Chicago skyline sat quietly in the background like part of the story instead of the focus. It felt peaceful and alive all at once. If you’re dreaming of a waterfront engagement session in Chicago, this little stretch along the lake honestly could not have been more perfect.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was that they brought their puppy along for part of the session. I always love when couples include pieces of their real everyday life in photos like this. Years from now, those are often the images that mean even more than you expected. The little in-between moments. The laughter when your dog refuses to sit still. The way your life looked together before everything officially began.
And honestly, Andrea and Ben made the entire Chicago engagement session feel effortless.
Andrea wore the most timeless white dress with a draped open back that moved beautifully. It felt elegant without trying too hard — classic and soft in a way that fit the entire evening perfectly. As the sun dropped lower, the golden light wrapped around the two of them in the gentlest way. You could just feel how comfortable they are together.
There was this quiet moment during blue hour when the city lights had just started to flicker on behind them and the sky turned that deep dusky shade over the water. They stood near the shoreline holding onto each other while everything around them slowed down for a second. Those are the moments I always notice most — the ones that don’t need posing or direction because they already mean something on their own.
A Chicago waterfront engagement session always has this balance of energy and calm to it. The city is right there, full of movement and noise, but near the lake everything softens a little. It creates the perfect backdrop for photos that feel timeless and connected without feeling overly posed.
As a photographer, sessions like this remind me how much engagement photos are really about preserving a season of life. Not just what things looked like, but what they felt like. The anticipation. The comfort. The beginning of building a life together.
Andrea and Ben, thank you for trusting me with this chapter of your story. Chicago showed off for you both, but honestly, the best part of this waterfront engagement session in Chicago was simply watching the two of you together.
